Milestones and Events

From our humble beginnings to the thriving parish we are today, these key moments mark our journey. History says, "In 1970, Christians of Busega requested the Archbishop Cardinal Emmanuel Nsubuga for a Parish. And on the 8th of April 1975, the Archbishop celebrated mass at Busega. Along with him, was Rev. Fr. Bazilio Babumba who he appointed a parish priest of Busega Parish.

The parish priest first resided at the Late Mr. Paul T Ssempuuma's home from 15th April 1976 to 06th September 1981"

Founding of Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Parish

The Archibishop Cardinal Emmanuel Nsubuga appointed the first priest on 15/04/1976. The Late Bishop Edward Bahararagate initiated the foundation of the first church, currently the Parish Hall being used by St. Joseph Secondary School Busega. The parish priest, Rev. Fr. Bazilio Babumba together with his executive committee approved of the parish to be under the interession of OUR LADY of MT. CARMEL, whose celebration takes place on 16th of July every year and thus our PARISH DAY.

The Archibishop Cardinal Emmanuel Nsubuga gave Busega Parish an acre and materials, the Late Henry Mary Kateregga gave 0.35 acres plus shs. 500,000. In addition, the parish priest and his executive committee expanded the parish land to 5+ acres by buying land from generous neigbours. The committee included; the Late Mugalula Joseph, Mr. Philip Kizito, the Late E. K. Kayemba, Mrs. Josephine N Kizito, the Late G. W. Ndidde, the Late G. W. Bukenya, the Late Joseph Bukenya, the Late Joseph Ssebunya, the Late Silvester Kiwanuka, the Late Matia Bemba, the Late Charles Muwonge, the Late John Katende and Mr. Paul Ssempuuma

Expansion of the Parish

Busega parish was made up of 7 subparishes; Busega Nateete, Kabojja, Kasenge-Kikajjo, Nkungulatale, Bukasa, Ssumbwe and Ttomi subparishes. In the year 2008 the Archbishop founded now Kyengera parish which shared borders of Nabbingo and Busega parishes. And so Busega, lost 3 of her subparishes(Kabojja, Kasenge and Nkungulutale) leaving her with Busega-Nateete, Ttomi, Ssumbwe and Bukasa. With time, the parish priest and his executive committe decided to re organise the parish by her remaining subparishes and new subparishes were born( NAKUWADDE, BULENGA-KIKAAYA, NAKABUGO and NATEETE) making a total of 7 subparishes. In 2014, the Late Archbishop Cyprian Kizito Lwanga, founded Buloba Parish from Busega parish and she lost Bulenga, Kikaaya, Ssumbwe, Nakuwadde, Ttomi and Nakabugo subparishes; leaving her with Busega and Nateete subparishes.

Renovation and Modernization

Busega subparish led by Mr. Lutaakome Simon as its head of laity had three zones; Church, Busega west and Kibumbiro zones and Nateete subparish led by the Late Nakanwagi Victoria as its head of laity had three zones too; Nateete North, Central and South. With time, the parish priest then, Rev. Fr. Kimbugwe Joseph along with his executive committe which was led chaired by the Late Patrick Bugembe as the head of laity reorganised the parish by the zones which becames subparishes; St. Balikuddembe, St. Kizito, St. Elizabeth, St. Bruno, St. Donozio and Christ the King subparishes. All the Parish Priests of Busega include; Rev. Fr. Bazilio Babumba, Rev. Fr. Joseph Nsereko, Rev. Fr. Charles Ssekiyonga, Rev. Fr. Paschal Mugerwa, Rev. Fr. Matia Ssonko, Rev. Fr. Joseph Njala, Rev. Fr. Charles Kaweesi Katongole, Rev. Fr. Joseph Kimbugwe, Rev. Fr. Vincent Kasirye, Rev. Fr. Lawrence Ssekamatte, Rev. Fr. Kasirye Vincent and Rev. Fr. Richard Kakoma who is the current parish priest. Heads of laity are; the Late Paul T. Ssempuuma, Mr. Expendito Ssekawooya, Mr. Francis Kasibante, the Late Pastore Masengere, Mr. Joseph Buwule, the Late Patrick Bugembe, Mr. Newton Akugizibwe and Mr. William Kalulu the current head of laity. The parish was renovated to improve worship spaces, classrooms, and community halls.
